This is a wonderful effort and resource! You all & your teacher should be given some recognition for this :) Some of us at Yesterday.SG have been talking about your blog. We all think it's an excellent resource.

Has anyone researched the Jalan Kayu Primary School? The school closed at the end of 1988.

What happened to all the grocery stores on Jalan Kayu?

I had primary school classmates who lived on Boh Sau Tian road, the road was renamed to Seletar East Farmway (I can't recall the exact number). Those who lived on Boh Sau Tian are surnamed Ang.

Pei Hwa Public School was on Yio Chu Kang Road. At that time, it was served by SBS bus route 163.
Dear jc,

Thanks for the lead regarding Boh Sau Tian Road. Its also interesting that those who stayed there were surnamed Ang. Yes , Pei Hwa Public School's Building is still very much there and the tenant there is now kinderland.:-)

You are welcome.

One end of Boh Sua Tian Road started at the church at the end of Jalan Kayu in front of the Seletar Air Base. Boh Sua Tian Road was along the edge of the air base's fence.

The most popular surnames in my primary school were Ang, Ong and Toh. If you don't have one of the above surnames, you must have moved in to Jalan Kayu from elsewhere.

I don't know if this is correct or wrong, but it was during music classes and we were learning to sing that song "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" (I don't know if this is still taught in school.), my classmate said the music was the same Pei Hwa Public School's school song.

I transferred to Jalan Kayu Pri Sch in 1978 and went to take my PSLE there. The school field was sitting exactly where the expressway cuts through now just beside the Epipany Church outside Seletar Camp. I stayed in 32, Brompton Road in the camp then. Alot of happy memories for me in th school then. The principal then was Mr Chong and I have very fond memories. Jalan Kayu and Boh Sua Tian Road holds a very special place in my heart. I was also a teenager attending Abundant Grace Presbyterian Church in the 80s. I still remember playing truant to hike into the dam area near Yishun then. Sigh ...

I studied in Jalan Kayu Primary from 1966 to 1972. Lots of great memories....Quaint neighbourhood...friendly folks....I stayed at Lorong Kechapi.
Visited the place a month ago with my teenage kids...had a great time reminising....
Anyone out there who did 1972 PSLE?

I think your name is wrong for wireless road. It should be Boh Tian Sua

I was born there Wireless road , my surname is Ang and my mother's surname was Toh, my neighbours are either Ong , Ang or Toh. I stayed until 1986 when we moved out to stay at HOUGANG , where just about everyone else from our area would be moving to ..I studied at yio chu kang primary school, graduating at 1979.
I believe that boh sua tian road is non existence now , just a millitary training ground , and those durain trees that we cultivated would have become delicacies for the soldiers traning there ...

Mr. Chong was the principal of Jalan Kayu Primary School from 1979 to 1981. The vice-principal was Mr. Tan Eng Chai. He became the principal after Mr. Chong's departure and served as principal until 1986. I saw Mr. Tan a few times in Olympic Games opening ceremonies as part of Singapore delegation to Olympic Games. He was a coach for swimming and possibly a Games official.

The school, unfortunately, closed down at end of 1988. Too bad this blog did not go further to research Jalan Kayu Primary School as it was also part of the Jalan Kayu community.
